Robert Fischer

A 1945 graduate of UCLA, Bob Fischer loyally served his alma mater in many ways, the highlight as UCLA's athletic director from 1980-83. Fischer joined the athletic department as J.D. Morgan's assistant director in 1964 and became associate director in 1978. When Morgan retired in 1979, Fischer was appointed acting athletic director, then took over the permanent job the next year.
Fischer originally came to Westwood in 1943 while serving in the U.S. Navy V-12 program. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management, finance, marketing and accounting. While at UCLA, he was active in student affairs, was a member of the ASUCLA Board of Control, a representative-at-large on the Student Executive Council, chairman of the Cal Club and All-University Sing and a member of numerous committees. Fischer, who was a member of the National Athletic Collegiate Director's Association Hall of Fame, died at 78 in 2000.
