Sinjin Smith
- Induction:
- 1991
A U.S. national team star who helped lead UCLA to a pair of men's volleyball championships in the late 1970s, Sinjin Smith later was the most visible player during the growth of volleyball as a professional beach sport. He became the biggest money-winner in beach volleyball history with the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP). He capitalized on his success by embarking on a modeling career, branching into sportswear manufacturing and marketing, writing a book, and starring in a movie, "Side Out" (1990). He was chosen by People Magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in 1990. Smith won 139 AVP titles before his retirement from beach volleyball in 2001.
