Stanford, CA - The 10th-ranked UCLA womens gymnastics team upset fifth-ranked Penn State, but the Bruins' score of 193.9 was not enough to overtake host Stanford, who scored a 194.05. Penn State, who lost for the first time this season, placed third in the triangular meet with a 191.65.
Senior All-American Kiralee Hayashi won the all-around for the first time this year, scoring a season-high 39.15. She also placed first on the floor exercise with a season-high 9.9, tied for second on bars with a season-high 9.9 and tied for third on vault with a 9.75.
Heidi Moneymaker won her 10th event title of the season by placing first on vault with a season-high 9.875. She also tied for third on floor with a 9.8. Lena Degteva won the balance beam with a season-high 9.875 and tied for third on vault with a 9.75.
Also providing strong performances for the Bruins were senior Luisa Portocarrero (season-high 9.85 on bars, third-place finish on beam with a season-high 9.825), freshman Alison Stoner (career-high 9.75 on bars, 9.7 on floor) and freshman Valerie Velasco (career-highs of 9.675 on bars, 37.975 in the all-around).
The Bruins, whose record now stands at 7-3, will next face Arizona State in Tempe on Friday, Feb. 12.
