Fifth ranked UCLA won its second consecutive match Saturday, sweeping Dvision III UC Santa Cruz before 349 at the John Wooden Center.

The Bruins (13-6) defeated the Banana Slugs, 15-2, 15-2, 15-10 in 86 minutes.

UC Santa Cruz scored the first point of the match, but the Bruins scored the next 10 to put Game 1 out of reach. UCLA finished the first game with a .781 hitting percentage, three aces and four blocks. Matt Davis, Mark Williams, Evan Thatcher and Adam Naeve combined for 22 kills without an error.

Game 2 was much the same for the Bruins, who compiled a 12-1 lead mostly on seven kills by Williams and two aces by Davis.

Coach Al Scates emptied his bench for Game 3, while non-starters Ed Ratledge, John Coon, Matt Grace, Seth Champi and Matt Komer combined for 26 kills and setter Kris Welch added a career high 22 set assists to give the Bruins their first sweep in eight matches.

Williams led the Bruins with 12 kills (.750) and Davis (.667) and Naeve (.643) each added nine.

The Bruins will host sixth ranked Lewis on Tuesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
