Third ranked UCLA extended its current winning streak to eight matches by defeating No.2 Pepperdine and No.14 Loyola Marymount last week.

The victories raised the Bruins record to 19-6 overall and 13-5 in MPSF Mountain Division action. The Bruins have clinched third place in the division and a spot in the MPSF playoffs, Apr. 24. Their first round playoff opponent has yet to be determined.

On Fri., Apr. 16, UCLA will host the 22nd Annual Kilgour Cup at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. All proceeds will benefit Kirk Kilgour, a member of the UCLA Hall of Fame and a former All-American, who was left a paraplegic as a result of a training accident in 1976. On Apr. 8 at Firestone Fieldhouse, the Bruins delivered a 3-2 payback victory to Pepperdine, which beat the Bruins by the same score on Jan. 27 at Pauley Pavilion. After dropping the first two games, 12-15 and 16-17, the Bruins stormed back to take the next three, 15-11, 15-9, 15-13. Junior All-American setter Brandon Taliaferro torched the Waves for four aces and All-American middle blocker Adam Naeve added 29 kills to lead the defending national champions. Senior Danny Farmer added 23 kills and four blocks.

At LMU the following night, the Bruins continued a familiar pattern: they dropped the first two games, 15-8 and 15-11, before rebounding to take the last three, 15-8, 15-2, 15-12. Naeve spiked a season best 34 kills, followed by Farmers 26, which tied his career high. Sophomore Mark Williams added 24 kills and 14 digs and Taliaferro added 17 digs and seven blocks.
