LOS ANGELES - The 12th-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team turned in a season-high 194.300 to place second at the UCLA Invitational. The Cardinal, which led by .05 going into the final rotation, lost to defending national champion UCLA, who scored a season-high 195.400 for the victory, while defeating No. 8 Michigan and Cornell. The season-high score mark the third consecutive week that the Cardinal improved upon its score. The Bruins, which trailed Stanford by .05 going into the final rotation, scored a school record 49.525 on the floor exercise to overtake the Cardinal.
Stanford was again led by junior co-captain Amy Murakami (Wayland, Mass./Wayland HS). Murakami turned in personal and team season-high 38.875 all-around score, good for fourth in the meet. She also scored a personal and team season-high in the floor exercise with a 9.900. Senior co-captain Keri Monahan (Laurel Springs, NJ/Paul VI HS) placed first on the vault with a season-high 9.825.
