LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The UCLA Athletic Department will hold its second annual on-line auction, beginning Friday morning, May 1 at 7 a.m. PDT and continuing through Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m. PDT. The auction will feature numerous items of sports memorabilia as well as vacation packages at hotels and resorts.
Developed in conjunction with TEN97, a company specializing in dynamic fund-raising and promotional events for non-profit organizations, the auction site can be reached through UCLA's university and athletic websites (http://www.ucla.edu) or at TEN97's site (http://ten97.com).
UCLA holds an auction in conjunction with its annual fund raising golf tournament and dinner, to be held this year on May 14, and expanded the auction to on-line status last year. For information on the tournament and dinner, please call the UCLA Athletic Fund Office at 310/206-3302.
The on-line auction is open to anyone with access to the World Wide Web. On the website, prospective buyers can read a short description of the item and, in many cases, view a digital image, as well as seeing the current bid for the item. If they are interested in participating, they may register for a customer number and then bid on the items of their choice.
The bid is immediately registered and the list is immediately updated with the latest bid information. In this way, a prospective buyer can track the item of interest and know when to bid again, right up to the closing moments of the auction.
Among the memorabilia that will be available for the on-line auction are: autographed photos of Skip Hicks, UCLA's all-time touchdown leader, and J.R. Henderson, the No. 6 scorer in school history; an autographed Roger Craig San Francisco 49er jersey; Bill Walton signed photos and magazine; a Charles O'Bannon practice jersey; an autographed photo of California Angel Darrin Erstad; Elden Campbell autographed basketball shoes; a Frank Thomas autographed jersey; an autographed photo of Kobe Bryant; a Nick Van Exel autographed jersey; a basketball autographed by the 1997-98 Bruin team that reached the Sweet 16; and basketball lockers formerly used by Bruin stars in the UCLA locker room.
Other fabulous items include: a top of the line Harley-Davidson motorcycle (valued at $18,000); a four-day, three-night fishing trip at the famous Waterfall Resort in Alaska, including airfare for two ($7,000); a full set of Callaway golf clubs ($2,250); a Mann Theaters Gold Annual Pass, good for winner and a guest ($750); a Baume & Mercier ladies watch ($1,000); a family holiday at Lake Arrowhead ($950); a three-day, two-night vacation package at the Fabulous Las Vegas Hilton ($675); and a three-day, two-night vacation package at the Marriott Mountain Shadow Resort in Scottsdale, AZ ($350).
