CORVALLIS, Ore. - UCLA was unable to overcome a season-best Oregon State score of 195.45 and placed second with a 194.5 Friday at the Shanico Inn-vitational. George Washington came away with third place at 187.925, while Seattle Pacific took fourth with 185.625 points.
Beaver junior All-American Megan Murphy registered three career highs and won three events.
Oregon State led by 1.10 points heading into the final rotation, with the Beavers finishing up on floor and the Bruins on bars. OSU junior Bea Tistu fell and scored an 8.850 on the opening routine to open up the door for the Bruins, but it wouldn't be enough for a comeback. The Bruins finished bars with a 48.875 with Murphy still left to compete for the Beavers. Prior to Murphy's performance, the Beavers had a 47.775 on floor, which meant she needed just an 8.975 to give OSU the win.
Murphy ended up with a career best 9.90 on the floor for a first place effort. She also won the balance beam with a 9.90 to tie her career best for the second straight week. Murphy also reset a personal best all-around score with a 39.175 total, good for first place as well.
Murphy's score on beam was one of five personal bests on the event for the Beavers. Senior All-American Deanne Droegmueller tied Murphy for the top spot with a career best 9.90, while junior Bea Tistu tied her career best with a third place 9.875. Sophomore Corrie Young tied her best with a 9.85, and freshman Annette Taylor's 9.750 was her best. The Beavers scored 49.275 as a team, just .050 off the school record.
OSU senior All-American Amy Slack, who finished second all-around at 39.100, took first place honors on bars with a season best 9.90, while Droegemueller took second with a 9.875.
UCLA's only event win came on vault, with All-American Stella Umeh scoring a 9.85 to place first. The Bruin vault crew as a team also won that event with a 48.7.
Three Bruins set career highs in the meet senior Andrea Fong (38.675, all-around, fifth place), sophomore Heidi Moneymaker (9.875, beam, 3rd place) and freshman Alexis Norman (9.675, floor). Kiralee Hayashi set a season-high on bars with a 9.875, which tied her for second place.
