LOS ANGELES - UCLA won its eighth consecutive and 13th overall UCLA Invitational, scoring a 194.275 to defeat Arizona (192.475), Florida (190.475) and Cal State Fullerton (187.375). The Bruins, who never trailed in the meet, won three of the four events, including vault with a season-high 48.975.
Bruin gymnasts swept the individual events, with junior Lena Degteva winning the all-around with a season-high 39.25, the bars (tied with Kiralee Hayashi) with a 9.85, the beam with a 9.775 and the floor with a 9.825. Luisa Portocarrero and Heidi Moneymaker tied for first on vault with 9.85s. The vault was Portocarrero's first since spraining her foot at last year's Invitational on her first collegiate vault. This time around, she scored a career-high 9.85 to tie for the win. Moneymaker's vault win was her fifth straight.
The win brings UCLA's record to 10-4, 3-2 in the Pac-10. UCLA's next meet is the Bruin Classic on Sunday, Mar. 7 at Pauley Pavilion at 2:00 pm.
