No. 7 UCLA Women's Soccer Defeats Washington State 2-1

WESTWOOD, Calif. - The No. 7 UCLA women's soccer team defeated Pac-10 opponent Washington State 2-1 tonight at UCLA's Spaulding Field. Bruin forwards Jessica Winton and Staci Duncan propelled UCLA to victory with their second half goals and assists.
After a scoreless first half, Duncan put the game in motion with 56:35 on the clock when she blasted the ball to the far back post and into the net. Winton was credited with the assist.
Washington State's lone goal came off a 76th minute penalty kick by junior forward Deka DeWitt. Seconds later, Winton notched the game-winner when she fired in a shot from the left off an assist from Duncan.
The Bruin defense allowed only six shots the entire game, while the Bruin offense put together 16 shots. UCLA goalkeeper CiCi Peterson pulled down four saves, while Cougar goalkeeper Lindsey Jorgensen had seven.
With tonight's win, UCLA's record improves to 11-2-0 overall and 3-0 in Pac-10 play. The Cougars fall to 6-6-0 overall and 0-2 in Pac-10 action.
The Bruins return to the field Sunday to battle Washington (4-7 overall, 1-1 Pac-10) for a 1 pm conference game at UCLA's North Athletic Field. UCLA holds a 4-1-0 series record over Washington, having last defeated the Huskies 2-0 in Seattle.
