PASADENA, Calif. - Junior Brian Brown scored a career-high five points to lead the No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team over No. 4 California 8-2 in an MPSF matchup at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center Saturday morning.

With the victory, the Bruins remain unbeaten in conference action with a 3-0 record and improve their overall record to 10-2. The Golden Bears fall to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the MPSF. UCLA has defeated Cal three times this season, including an 8-2 win in the semifinals of the NorCal Tournament last Sunday.

Brown's five points came on four goals and one two-pointer which proved to be the game winner with 22 seconds left to play in the first quarter. Two minutes after Cal's Jerry Smith put the Golden Bears on the board 1-0, Brown stole the ball in the Bruins' defensive half to post the counter-attack and sink the two-pointer, giving UCLA a lead it would never relinquish.

Also scoring goals for the Bruins were juniors Andy Bailey and Dave Parker and senior Matt Armato. Spencer Dornin accounted for the second Cal goal, which cut the UCLA lead to 3-2 in the second quarter. The Bruins then went on to score five more unanswered points.

Senior goalkeeper Parsa Bonderson and the UCLA defense held the Golden Bears scoreless through the second half. Bonderson tallied nine saves, while Cal goalkeeper Kevin Ahasey made three.

UCLA will face No. 10 UC Santa Barbara at the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center tomorrow at noon. The Gauchos face Pepperdine today in Malibu.
