Bruins Fall To Ducks, 2-1

EUGENE, Ore. - Chalise Baysa and Melissa Parker each scored a goal, and the Ducks held off a furious second-half rally by UCLA to defeat the No.20 Bruins, 2-1. In the final home game for Oregon's first-ever class of seniors, Oregon registered just two shots in the second half to the Bruins' 12, but made them count as they both found the back of the net.

The game was definitely a tale of two halves. In the first half, Oregon was the aggressor, outshooting the Bruins 10 to six, but neither team was able to put one across. In the second half, UCLA controlled the ball for most of the half and put 12 shots on Duck goalkeeper Amanda Fox. She had a stellar game however, and stopped eight of them in keeping the Bruins out of the net after the Ducks assumed the lead in the 59th minute.

Oregon first took the lead on a goal by Baysa in the 48th minute of action, on the first shot of the second half for Oregon. The lead did not last long, as UCLA tied the score on a goal by Tracy Milburn less than ten minutes later. But Oregon had an answer just 1:13 later, as Parker took a pass from teammate Kristi Morris and drilled a shot by Bruin goalkeeper Cici Peterson from 25 yards out. It was Parker's first goal of the season, a fabulous shot with her left foot that Peterson had no chance to get.

Oregon head coach Bill Steffen was happy to send his seniors off on a winning note. "Our players worked hard all season long," he said. "They picked up their intensity a notch today, and they found another level within themselves. I feel this is the biggest win in the history of our program. I can't think of a better way to send our seniors off."

Oregon improved its season record to 7-10, 3-4 in Pac-10 conference play. UCLA fell to 13-4-1, 5-2-2.
