UCLA had a tremendous overall fall recruiting period. The Bruins signed perhaps the nation's No. 1 class in several sports, including: baseball, women's gymnastics, softball, men's track & field, women's track & field, men's volleyball and women's water polo. Below is the list of UCLA's fall signees listed by sport.

MEN'S BASKETBALL:

T.J. Cummings, 6-9 forward from Homewood-Flossmoor HS in Homewood, Illinois. T.J. is rated as one of the top power forwards in the nation. Son of Golden State Warriors player and former DePaul standout Terry Cummings.

BASEBALL:

Shaun Boyd, infielder from Vista HS and lives in Pala, CA. He is regarded as one of the top infielders in the state of California. Boyd will compete for the starting job at second base. He is an outstanding hitter and fielder and was an All-CIF selection. Played in Area Code Games.

Ryan Cheo, left-handed pitcher from Saddleback JC and lives in Mission Viejo, CA. One of top JC pitchers in Southern California, he will provide depth in the UCLA bullpen next year.

Chris Cordeiro, 6-3 right-handed pitcher from Thousand Oaks HS in Thousand Oaks, CA...Considered one of the top pitchers in California. A right-handed thrower who was an All-CIF selection, he pitched his summer legion team to the state tournament. Mike Davern, 6-4 right-handed pitcher from Brea-Olinda HS in Brea, CA...One of the hardest throwers in California, he pitched well this summer in the Area Code games. An honor student.

Ben Francisco, outfielder from Cypress JC and lives in Anaheim, CA...He has excellent speed and a strong arm and will provide valuable depth because of his experience in outfield.

Preston Griffin, shortstop from Long Beach Millikin HS in Long Beach, CA.. Griffin is regarded as the No. 1 shortstop prospect on the West Coast. He was the standout at his position in the Area Code Games. He is an outstanding hitter and fielder who will battle for a starting position as a freshman.

Mike Stodolka, 6-2 left-handed pitcher and first baseman from Centennial HS in Corona, CA. He was perhaps most versatile player at the Area Code Games...Stodolka figures to be starting pitcher as a freshman and he is also an excellent first baseman and power hitter.

Matt Thayer, outfielder from Harvard-Westlake HS, who lives in Woodland Hills, CA. One of the top high school outfielders in the state, he possesses tremendous speed and an excellent arm.

Matt Wheatland, 6-5 right-handed pitcher and outfielder from Rancho Bernardo HS and lives in Poway, CA. Perhaps the top high school pitcher in the West, he is rated the No. 10 prep player for next June's draft (Baseball America). He throws the ball in the 90s and will be an impact player. As a pitcher, he compiled a record of 8-1. As a hitter, batted .358 with seven home runs and 21 runs batted in.

MEN'S GOLF:

Steven Conway, Santa Margarita HS and lives in Dove Canyon, CA....Conway enjoyed an excellent summer on the AJGA circuit with several Top 10 finishes. ...He is a strong student who will provide valuable depth in the UCLA program.

John Merrick, Long Beach Wilson HS and lives in Long Beach, CA. He is one of the top five golfers on the West Coast this year. A 3.9 student who will have an excellent shot at playing in UCLA's top five next year. He won a league championship last year and shot 66 for one round on par 72 course.

Roy Moon, Royal HS and lives in Simi Valley, CA. A league champion who had won several local tournaments. He played well in both the CIF and State championships last spring. He shot a 68 in one round (par 72) at leagues.

WOMEN'S GOLF:

Krystal Shearer, Alemany HS and lives in Northridge, CA. One of the top golfers in California. He has won over 25 junior tournaments in her career...Tied for first at the 1998 CIF Championships...Plays on the boy's team at her high school.

Gina Umeck, East Valley HS and lives in Redlands, CA. Played for her father in high school and has won many events. Finished first at the 1997 CIF Championships as a sophomore. She had several top ten finishes on AJGA Circuit this past summer.

WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS:

Jeanette Antolin, Marina HS in Huntington Beach, CA. She is considered one of the top recruits in the nation. She has been a member of the USA National Team for the past five years and competed in the recent World Championships in China. Won a silver medal at 1999 Pan-American Games team competition. Plans to compete in the 2000 Olympics before enrolling.

Jamie Dantzscher, San Dimas HS in San Dimas, CA. She has been a member of the USA National Team for six years and competed at the recent World Championships in China. A medalist in both the floor and bars at USA Championships, she competed in 1999 Pan American Games and won a silver medal in the team competition.

Yvonne Tousek, Southwood Secondary School in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. Her country's top gymnast. She was the best from her country at the recent World Championships in China. He was a 1996 Olympian and has competed now in two World Championships. Won gold medals in bars and floor exercise at the 1999 Pan American Games. A leading candidate for 2000 Olympic Team and is the fifth Canadian champion to sign at UCLA.

Alyssa Beckerman, Cincinnati, Ohio. One of the top five gymnasts in the United States, she signed last year at UCLA, but will begin college following the 2000 Olympic Games. A member of the USA National Team. She made 1999 World Championship team but did not compete due to wrist injury. Placed fourth in all-around at 1999 USA Championships.

Kristen Maloney, Pen Argyl, PA. A two-time USA National Gymnastics champion and a leading candidate for the 2000 Olympic Team. She signed last year at UCLA and will enter college following the Olympic Games A gold medalist at 1998 Goodwill Games. She recently competed for USA Team at World Championships.

WOMEN'S SOFTBALL:

Keira Goerl, pitcher from Valley View HS in Moreno Valley, CA. The No. 1 pitcher in the nation. Pitched her high school team to the CIF title in 1999. A member of USA Jr. National Team, she allowed only one run in high school a year ago.

Stephanie Ramos from Elk Grove HS in Elk Grove, CA...Ramos is rated the No. 1 outfielder in nation...An impact hitter who is also member of USA Jr. National Team, she dominated play in the Sacramento area with her hitting and fielding.

Claire Sua, St. Thomas Aquinas HS and lives Cooper City, Florida. Sua plays both first base and pitcher. The sister of UCLA NCAA Championship Track & Field athlete Seilala Sua. She is considered as the No. 1 prospect in the South, as well as the top utility player in the nation.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Cathy Coler, IM specialist from Amador Valley HS in Pleasanton, CA. She has top marks in both the 200 and 400 IM events. Coker will provide valuable depth in these events for team.

Brooke Winkler, IM/Breaststroke from St. Francis HS and lives in Los Altos, CA...One of the top recruits in California, she has the potential to be NCAA qualifier as a freshman.

WOMEN'S TENNIS:

Lauren Fisher, Woodland Hills HS in Pittsburgh, PA...She enjoyed a fine summer on the 18s circuit. An honor student, she could battle for a spot near the top of UCLA's lineup next year.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD:

Valerie Flores, Distance runner, San Pedro HS in San Pedro, CA. The top distance runner in the LA City area. A champion in both track & field and cross country, she owned one of the top cross country marks at Mt. Sac this year.

Sheena Johnson, Sprints/hurdles/jumps, from Garfield HS in Dale City, VA...Perhaps the top all-around recruit in the nation, she can compete in all sprint, hurdle and jump events. She is an outstanding student.

Adia McKinnon, Sprinter from Homewood-Flossmoor HS in Flossmore, IL. One of the top sprinters in the Midwest, she is also a 4.0 student. McKinnon will help UCLA primarily in the 200 and 400 meters.

Hasani Roseby, Monterey HS in Monterey, CA. The California state champion in the sprints and hurdles, she is also a top long jumper. She won the 100 and 200 meters, the 100 hurdles and the long jump at the Northern California Sectional meet. She is regarded as the No. 1 sprinter on the West Coast.

Lara Saye, Throw events from Silverado HS and lives in Henderson, Nevada. She has outstanding potential in the throwing events. Has bests of 41 feet in the shot put and 156 feet in the discus. The Nevada State Champ in the discus.

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD:

Juaune Armon, long and triple jump from Arch Bishop Mitty HS in San Jose, CA. The No. 1 jumper in Northern California, he went over 24 feet in the long jump and 46 feet in the triple jump as a junior.

Anthony Golston, sprints and hurdles from Pt. Loma High School and lives in San Diego, CA. He is the CIF Champion in San Diego County in the hurdle events and he also did well at State meet.

Oliver Jackson II, long and triple jump from Royal HS in Simi Valley, CA. Jackson is considered the top long jumper in California. He recorded a best of 24-8 as a junior and has the potential to be a scorer as a collegiate freshman.

Trevor Jones, Sprints/Hurdles from Newport Harbor HS in Newport Beach, CA. Jones will run both 400 hurdles and 400 meters in college. He is a potential CIF scorer in the 300 hurdles and 400 meters and has run 48.0 for 400 meters.

Anthony Ortiz, long and triple jump from Helix HS in La Mesa, CA. The No. 1 jumper in San Diego County, Ortiz went over 48 feet in the triple jump as a junior and has also long jumped over 22 feet.

Warren Rogers, sprints from Serra HS and lives in Los Angeles, CA. Regarded as one of the top sprint prospects in the nation, Rogers has run 10.28 for 100 meters. The 1999 league champion in the 100 and 200 meters, he will concentrate solely on track & field in college.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL:

Sahael Almuallem, 6-8 middle blocker from Quartz Hill HS in Quartz Hill, CA. He has the potential to develop into a top college player. He enjoyed an excellent junior season in the middle and was named All-League in high school.

Gray Garrett, 6-7 outside hitter from San Clemente HS in San Clemente, CA. One of the top power hitters in the high school class, he had very fine club season following a standout junior year in high school.

Paul Jocas, 6-0 Libero from Chaminade HS and lives in Moorpark, CA. Jocas was recruited for the new backcourt specialist position in men's college volleyball. He is an outstanding passer and defensive player.

Paul Johnson, 6-8 middle blocker from Capistrano Valley HS in Mission Viejo, CA. Johnson has the potential to develop into a top college blocker. He had a fine club season following a good junior year of high school.

Allan Mount, 6-5 hitter/setter from Dos Pueblos HS in Goleta, CA. A strong high school player, he will be converted to a setter in college. His brother, Cameron, is on the Bruin squad after returning from a two-year Mormon mission.

Parker Smith, 6-4 outside hitter from Punahou HS in Honolulu, HI. Smith is regarded as the No. 1 outside hitter in the country. This past summer, he started for the USA Junior National Team that won a major international tournament. He was selected Hawaii Player of the Year in leading his team to the HS State Title. His father, Ken, is the water polo coach at his high school and played water polo for UCLA.

WOMEN'S WATER POLO:

Thalia Munro, Driver from Santa Barbara HS in Santa Barbara, CA. She is one of the top two recruits in the nation. Munro is a member of USA Junior National Team and has done well in international competition. An honor student, she will be impact freshman next year.

Natalie Golda, Driver from Rosary HS and lives in La Habra. Golda is one of the top two recruits in the nation. A member of the USA Junior National Team, she is a candidate for the 2000 Olympic Team.

Kristyn Pulver, Driver from Villa Park HS in Villa Park, CA. Pulver is considered one of the top five players in the nation. An All-CIF selection, she has dominated high school water polo with her scoring ability.
