LOS ANGELES - The top-ranked UCLA men's tennis team defeated the University of Miami, 6-1, in a dual match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center today. With the victory UCLA improves to 16-1 overall while Miami dropped to 6-6.

Doubles action got the match started going the Bruins' way as UCLA cruised to victories on all three courts to claim the lone point awarded for doubles play. UCLA's No. 25 ranked tandem of Jean-Noel Grinda and Jong-Min Lee opened play with an 8-1 win over Miami's Tarik El Bassouni and Ralph Hilt on court No. 2. UCLA's No. 7 ranked team of Jason Cook and Brandon Kramer clinched the point with an 8-1 win over the Hurricanes' Joel Berman and Arpad Odry in the No. 1 position. The Bruins' team of Marcin Rozpedski and Chris Sands added an 8-3 win over Miami's Mark Arrowsmith and Jose Lieberman on court No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep.

The Bruins decided to rest usual No. 1 player Jean-Noel Grinda from singles play today allowing everyone to play up a slot in the UCLA lineup. First to finish was court No. 2 where UCLA's Cook handled Miami's Jamin Thompson 6-2, 6-2. Moments later, Lee put the Bruins ahead 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Arrowsmith in the No. 4 slot. Celebrating his 19th birthday today, UCLA rookie Zack Fleishman claimed the win over Johan Linqvist in his first action in the No. 1 position to clinch the team victory for UCLA.

The three remaining matches were much closer as two went three sets and the other included a first-set tiebreaker. In a battle between left-handers, Sands split the first two sets with Berman then lost the third-set tiebreaker 13-11 to give Miami its only win of the afternoon on court No. 6. In one of his longer matches of season, UCLA's Rozpedski claimed the first-set tiebreaker and won in straight sets over Odry on court No. 5. The final match saw UCLA's Kramer battle back from a first-set loss to defeat Lieberman on court No. 3.

UCLA will now take a break for final exams and resumes action with five more home matches. Next up is one of the most anticipated contests of the season when rival Stanford comes to town on Friday, April 2 for a 1:30 p.m. match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
