Bruins Rout Long Beach State

WESTWOOD, Calif. - Three-time defending national champion UCLA defeated the Long Beach State 49ers, 11-4, in today's MPSF conference matchup.
UCLA held the 49ers scoreless for three quarters, posting a 9-0 lead before Long Beach State junior Elizabeth Garcia (Commerce) fired in a four-meter penalty shot with 6:31 remaining in the fourth quarter. The 49ers went on to score three straight goals before UCLA freshman Brianne Barth (Long Beach) scored the last goal of the game, closing the final score at 11-4 with the Bruins on top.
UCLA was led in scoring by senior Katie Tenenbaum (Merced) and freshman Jenny Lamb (Huntington Beach), each with two points. A total of nine players notched points for the Bruins.
Four different players tallied points for Long Beach State.
UCLA's stifling defense was guided by junior goalkeeper Erin Golaboski (Severna Park, MD) who grabbed seven saves. Long Beach State netkeeper Rebecca Levine (Albuquerque, NM) tallied one save.
Today's victory increases UCLA's record to 13-7 overall and 5-3 in MPSF action. The 49ers now fall to 11-12 overall and 3-5 in the MPSF.
UCLA returns to the pool tomorrow, Friday, April 2, for their last regular season home game. The San Diego State Aztecs come to town at 4 p.m. for an MPSF conference game.
