No. 1 Bruins Too Much for Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 14-ranked University of Oregon softball was swept by the No. 1 nationally ranked Bruins from UCLA, 6-0 and 16-1 (five innings), today in front of 827 fans at Howe Field.
The Ducks' record drops to 32-14 overall and 5-7 in the Pac-10 while the Bruins improve to 44-1 overall and 11-1 in the Pac-10.
In game one, UCLA scored six runs on 12 hits to down the Ducks, 6-1. The Bruins jumped out in the first inning, scoring three runs and Oregon never recovered. Christi Ambrosi, Amanda Freed and Julie Marshall each went 3-for-4 for the Bruins. Oregon could only manage three hits, including a home run by freshman Christi Shelton (2-for-3, double, home run) in the second inning, her second home run of the season. Bruin pitcher Courtney Dale, improved her perfect record to 22-0 on the year, pitching seven innings, striking out three. Freshman Connie McMurren went the distance for the Ducks, allowing six runs (five earned) on 12 hits with four strikeouts. McMurren's record falls to 10-6 on the year.
In game two, UCLA just dominated from the beginning downing the Ducks, 16-1 in five innings (mercy rule). Leading the 15-hit Bruin attack was Marshall's 2-for-3 performance which produced two home runs, including a first inning grand slam and seven RBI. Four other Bruins had at least two hits, including Ambrosi's 3-for-4 performance (home run). Oregon recorded two hits, one of which was a home run by Katie Mackey in the fourth inning, her eighth of the season. Amanda Freed picked up her 19th win (19-1), pitching five innings while striking out four. Danielle Haag recorded the loss (9-2), pitching three and two - thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (five earned) on eight hits. Oregon has yet to be shutout this year.
