Berkeley, Calif. - In a quadrangular meet at Berkeley Friday night, Bruin senior Heidi Moneymaker became a history-maker, setting a new school all-around record with a 39.775 and scoring her first-ever perfect 10 in winning the vault title. Moneymaker's record-setting performance led UCLA to a first-place showing with a team score of 196.425. California was a distant second with a 192.175, followed by UC Davis (187.55) and UC Santa Barbara (185.15).
Moneymaker, from nearby Santa Rosa, scored just the fourth 10.0 on vault in UCLA's history, nailing a perfect handspring front layout with a half-twist (a vault valued at 9.9 in the FIG International Code of Points). She nearly scored another 10 on bars but settled for a career-high tying 9.975 to tie for first place with teammate Mohini Bhardwaj. Moneymaker continued her sweep of the meet by placing first on beam with a 9.85 and on floor with a career-high tying 9.95.
Bhardwaj placed second in the all-around with a 39.55, followed by freshman Malia Jones in third with a career-high 39.05.
The Bruins swept the top five placings on vault, the top four placings on floor and the top three on bars and beam.
UCLA will next compete on Valentine's Day, Monday, Feb.14 against the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The meet will take place at the Huntsman Center at 7:00 pm MT. Live scoring updates will be provided on Utah's website at: www.UtahUtes.com.
