  • Eric Karros (1986-88) surpassed Ron Cey as the Los Angeles Dodger's career home run leader Tuesday, belting an eighth-inning solo shot in L.A.'s 6-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Karros now has 229 career home runs. He was also 3-for-4 at the plate Tuesday.
  • Peter Zamora (1995-97), in his first start since pitching a perfect game, allowed just one earned run in six innings, surrending six hits and two walks while striking out four. Zamora received a no-decision as his team Reading, the AA affiliate for the Phillies, was defeated by Akron 6-5 on Tuesday evening.

  • Kevin Wong (1992-1995) and teammate Rob Heidger are currently ranked fifth in the FIVB world rankings, first amongst U.S. teams. Karch Kiraly (1979-1982) and teammate Adam Johnson are third amongst U.S. teams and 12th in the world. Only two U.S. teams will qualify for the Olympic Games.
  • Annett (Buckner) Davis (1991-1994) and Jenny (Johnson) Jordan (1992-1995) are currently ranked second in the FIVB women's world rankings and first amongst U.S. teams and are followed closely by Liz Masakayan (1982-1985) and Elaine Youngs (1988-1992), who rank third in the world and second amongst U.S. teams.

    Softball

  • Lisa Fernandez (1990-93) pitched the fourth perfect game of the Central Park to Sydney tour for USA Softball, striking out 14 of the 15 batters she faced. USA Softball won 15-0 in a game that was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. It was the third perfect game in as many days for the National Team. During the tour, Fernandez has 38 K's in 19 innings and has yet to issue a walk.

  • Eric Valent (1996-98), UCLA's all-time career home run leader, now playing for Reading, the AA affiliate of the Phillies, was 2-4 and hit his seventh homer of the season in Reading's 11-6 victory over Harrisburg on Monday night.
