Westchester, CA - The UCLA men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Loyola Marymount in both teams' final exhibition match before the start of the 2000 season.
Freshman forward Matt Taylor scored the game's first goal at 52:43 when he drew LMU goalkeeper Jerad Bailey out of the box and lobbed the ball into the back of the net from 10 yards out. Freshman Adolfo Gregorio assisted on the play, giving him one goal and one assist in the pre-season.
LMU struck back 10 minutes later when Andres Murriagui blasted a shot that was deflected by Bruin freshman goalkeeper DJ Countess. Eric Kim was there to pounce on the rebound and put it into the back of the net for the equalizer. At 71:27, the Lions took the lead for good on a Gonzalo Bonilla goal.
Countess had seven saves, while Bailey had five.
Senior forward McKinley Tennyson Jr. received his second yellow card of the match with 6:14 to play in the game and will have to miss the Bruins' season opener Sept. 1 vs. Butler in Bloomington, IN.
