Gainesville, FL - In just her second collegiate game, UCLA freshman forward Katherine Bjazevich scored her first career goal, then added two more, helping the No. 14 UCLA women's soccer team to a 6-1 decision Friday over the University of Georgia at Florida's Percy Beard Stadium.
UCLA (2-1) got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead when freshman Sarah-Gayle Swanson headed in a shot past Georgia keeper Nicole Williams, just a minute and a half into the game. Bjazevich then added the next two goals, scoring her first on a shot from 22 yards out in the 33rd minute and her second on an assist from senior Karissa Hampton in the 35th minute.
Following a 3-0 UCLA halftime lead, Georgia (2-1) struck first in the second half when Christy Peavy headed in a Catherine Holder cross that slipped passed Bruin keeper CiCi Peterson.
From then on, however, it was all UCLA as senior Tracey Milburn got on the board in the 60th minute on an assist from junior Bethany Bogart. Bjazevich made the score 5-1 in the 80th minute on an unassisted shot from about five yards out and Milburn finished things off in the 89th minute with her second goal of the game.
On Sunday, UCLA will take on No. 10 Florida at 2:00 p.m. (EST) in a live televised match on the Sunshine Network (G-83, Transponder 13).
