LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Matt Flesher scored three goals to lead the No. 2 UCLA Bruins to a 13-6 victory over No. 8 Pepperdine Waves in MPSF action this afternoon. UCLA improves to 7-2 overall (3-0 MPSF) while Pepperdine drops to 5-2 (0-1 MPSF).
The Bruins jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first 2:13 of the game, scoring goals on their first five shots. UCLA went on to score eight goals in the first period, including three by Flesher. Brandon Brooks was solid in goal, making six saves in the first period and 12 overall.
Mike Hausmann led Pepperdine in scoring with two goals.
UCLA was very effective in extra man situations, scoring six goals on seven 6 x 5 opportunities. Three of Pepperdine's goals came during extra man play.
UCLA will travel to take on No. 1 USC next Saturday at 10:00 a.m in a crucial MPSF matchup. Pepperdine will travel to UC San Diego next Saturday.
