LOS ANGELES - Matt Barnes scored inside with 47 seconds remaining as UCLA escaped with a 65-60 victory over UC Irvine on Saturday night to win consecutive games for the first time this season.

The Bruins (4-3) blew most of an 11-point lead, then clung to a one-point advantage when Barnes scored despite getting poked in the face to give UCLA a 61-58 lead.

Dan Gadzuric got a hand on a shot by Irvine's Adam Parada that missed, effectively ending the Anteaters' hopes for their second win over a Pacific-10 Conference team this season. They beat California on Dec. 2.

Jason Kapono had 19 points for UCLA, which trailed by four at halftime. Barnes finished with 16 points and tied his career high with 10 rebounds.

The Anteaters (4-2) managed only a basket by Ben Jones while Barnes hit three of four free throws and Ray Young made one of two in the final 20 seconds.

Playing its first road game of the season, Irvine was led by Parada, who had 10 of his 14 points in the second half. Parada was one of three reserves who rallied the Anteaters late in the game.

Trailing by 11 points, the Anteaters outscored UCLA 12-2 to close within one on an inside basket by Parada. Gadzuric picked up his fourth foul on the play, but Parada missed the free throw with 3:56 remaining.

Sean Jackson hit a 3-pointer that again had Irvine within one with 2:14 left before Barnes' big basket.

The Bruins scored the first 13 points of the second half to take a 43-34 lead after trailing by four at halftime. The Anteaters were effective in cutting off UCLA's perimeter offense, holding the Bruins to 2-of-19 shooting from 3-point range.
