LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jason Kapono scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead UCLA to an 84-64 win against Hawaii Saturday, in Hawaii's first ever game at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion.
Earl Watson and Ray Young each had 13 points for UCLA (3-3).
Predrag Savovic led Hawaii (1-3) with 23 points. Bosko Radovic added 14.
The Bruins used a 10-2 run to open up a 28-20 lead with 7:31 to go in the first half. Kapono hit one of seven, three-point baskets in the first half in the run.
Matt Barnes and Young each connected on three-pointers in a 10-0 Bruin run to lead 45-26 with 2:38 to play in the first half.
Savovic's lay-in with 10:50 to go capped an 8-2 Hawaii run to pull within 59-48.
But 49 seconds later, Young sparked an 8-0 run to widen UCLA's lead to 67-48 with 9:01 left. Troy Ostler's dunk with 4:45 remaining cut UCLA's margin to 72-60, and Hawaii got no closer.
UCLA led 47-28 at the half without going to the free-throw line. Young's two free throws with 10:05 left in the game were the first UCLA free throws.
