WESTWOOD, Calif. - UCLA's Amanda Basica and Sara Walker rallied back from a 7-2 deficit at No. 1 doubles, winning 9-8(6), as the 14th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team registered 7-2 dual-match victory over UC Irvine at the Los Angeles Tennis Center Friday. - With the win, UCLA improves to 6-2 on the season, while LMU drops to 4-3 overall.
Walker and Basica, ranked 27th in the latest WingspanBank.com National Tennis Rankings, were down match point at 7-2 before rallying to pick up the victory over Irvine's No. 1 duo of Darian Chappell/Jonni Seymour.
In singles, Walker improved to 22-4 overall and 8-0 in dual-match play, defeating UC Irvine's Maureen Diaz 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 Position. Walker has not lost a singles match since Jan. 7 at the Pac-10 Indoors. - UCLA won five of the six singles matches, dropping its only contest in the No. 3 slot, where Annica Cooper was forced to retire due to an injury at 0-3 in the first set. -
The Bruins have one of their toughest weeks of the season coming up, as they travel to No. 7 USC this Wednesday, prior to heading to Austin, Tex., for dual matches with No. 8 Texas on Saturday and No. 3 Georgia on Sunday.
