WESTWOOD, Calif. -- In the first-ever meeting between UCLA and Illinois in women's tennis, the No. 7 Bruins beat the visiting Fighting Illini 7-2 Friday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the campus of UCLA.
Bruin senior and Illinois native Annica Cooper was one of four UCLA players to win singles matches Friday, as she needed three sets to defeat Eldina Fazlic 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Cooper played her high school tennis at Geneva High School in Chicago.
With UCLA ahead 4-2 heading into doubles play, the Bruins clinched the match when Catherine Hawley/Petya Marinova defeated Eldina Fazlic/Carla Rosenberg 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
With the victory, UCLA improves to 10-5 overall while Illinois falls to 5-9.
The Bruins take next week off for spring break and will be in action again on April 1, when they host USC at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at Noon.
