WESTWOOD, Calif. - The third-ranked UCLA Bruins downed No. 7 UC Davis 10-1 in women's water polo Sunday at UCLA's Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
UCLA dominated the Aggies in the first half of play, holding them scoreless while putting six goals of its own on the scoreboard. Despite the lopsided score, UC Davis managed an impressive third quarter effort, holding UCLA scoreless while registering a goal. However, the 6-1 deficit to be too formidable for the Aggies, as the Bruins closed in on the victory, adding four goals in the final quarter.
Freshman Tiffany Hodgens recorded the Aggies' only goal of the game. UCLA was led in scoring by junior Kristin Guerin, who had three goals. Senior captain Catharine von Schwarz pitched in two goals, while Erin Golaboksi, Kelly Heuchan, Serela Kay, Ashley Stachowski and Elaine Zivich each added a goal apiece.
With the win, UCLA's record improves to 17-3 overall, while the Aggies fall to 14-12. This is the second time both teams have met this season, with UCLA handing UC Davis a 13-3 loss at the UC Santa Barbara Tournament on February 26.
The Bruins take to the pool again tomorrow when they host No. 5 San Jose State in an MPSF conference matchup beginning at 4 pm at the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
