Westwood, Calif. -- Though it was Senior Day for three Bruins on Saturday, it was a freshman who turned in the most impressive performance, as UCLA's Sara Walker defeated Patrycia Gajdzik 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, helping UCLA to a 7-2 victory over the Cougars at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Walker, who is ranked seventh in the latest ITA singles rankings and has dropped just two games in UCLA's last two dual matches, knocked off the nation's No. 1 player on Friday, beating Kristina Kraszewski 6-0, 6-1 in the Bruins' 7-2 victory over the 22nd-ranked Huskies. She is now 27-6 on the season and 13-2 in dual matches.

Playing in her final regular-season home match for UCLA today, senior Annica Cooper had little trouble as she rolled to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Washington State's Melissa Pine.

Bruin Catherine Hawley turned in the only perfect performance of the afternoon, downing Moniek Van de Ven 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 position.

UCLA held a 4-2 lead going into doubles action and clinched the dual-match victory at No. 1 doubles, where senior Elizabeth Schmidt and Abigail Spears defeated Tamara Filipovic/Pine 8-6.

With the victory, UCLA improves to 13-7 overall and 5-1 in the Pac-10. Washington State is now 10-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

The Bruins close out the 2000 regular season next week up in the Bay Area with matches against No. 4 Cal on Friday and No. 1 Stanford on Saturday. The Pac-10 Championships are the following week up in Ojai, Calif.
