Northridge ,Calif. - Freshman left-hander Bill Murphy went the distance, allowing just two unearned runs and lifting Cal State Northridge over the UCLA baseball team 7-2 at Matador Field Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Bruins lose only their fourth game in the last 21 games and fall to 24-14 overall. Cal State Northridge improves to 14-24 overall.

The Bruins took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on two Matador errors. CSUN answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, before exploding for four runs in the fourth to take the lead for good.

The Matadors racked up four consecutive hits including two doubles by designated hitter Jesus Osuna and center fielder Mike Bumstead and a two-run bases loaded single by left-fielder Tim Arroyo off Bruin starter Bobby Roe. Roe suffered the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits through five innings.

Junior first baseman Garrett Atkins and junior catcher Ryan Hamill led the Bruins with two hits apiece.

UCLA junior right-hander Jon Brandt relieved Roe in the seventh, and after allowing one more Matador run struck out five of the last seven batters to face him.

The three-game series concludes tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
