Los Angeles --Five current Bruins netted goals Sunday as the UCLA Blue Team, made up of 2000 UCLA players, defeated the UCLA White Team, consisting mostly of Bruin alumni, 5-1 at UCLA's North Athletic Field.
Freshman Lindsay Greco got things started when she hit a left-footed volley from about 12-yards out to give the Blue Team an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter. She was followed by goals from juniors Stephanie Rigamat and Breana Boling, giving the Blue team a 3-0 lead at halftime.
The second half was much of the same as junior Staci Duncan and freshman Kristine Brittingham each netted goals for the Blue Team for a 5-0 advantage. Lari Kiremidjian (1995-98) helped the White Team avoid the shutout, scoring with about seven minutes left in the third quarter.
Sunday's game was played using four, 20-minute quarters instead of the usual two, 45-minute halves.
A few of the alumni competing Sunday included, Skylar Little (1996-98), Rhi Tanaka (1996-97), Louise Lieberman (1995-98), Tiffany Brown (1994-97), Sommer Hammoud (1997-98) and Christine Sanders (1993-95).
The 2000 Bruins begin their season this week in Clemson, SC at the Clemson/Nike Kickoff Classic. There, No. 14 UCLA will take on No. 6 Clemson on Friday and Georgia State on Sunday.
