UCLA - Alabama Post Game Quotes
September 02, 2000 | Football
UCLA head coach Bob Toledo:
"I'm excited for this football team, for the Bruin fans and for the Pac-10. The team overcame diversity. Many were hurt, and they weren't given much credit. But they worked hard in the off-season, and most importantly, they believed."
"(Ryan) McCann did an outstanding job directing the football team. Ryan has continued to improve and will learn from his mistakes and get better."
(On McCann's interception) "He threw the ball into coverage, but when he came off the field, I told him that we needed him. I didn't lose confidence in him. I just told him that we needed him to go back out there and make a big play, and on the next series, he threw a touchdown pass."
(On running the ball) "We wanted to shorten the game and keep the ball out of Alabama's hands because they're explosive offensively. We wanted to wear them down and tire them. The offensive line blocked well against a team ranked No. 2 in the nation last year in defense against the run."
"This has to go down as one of the all-time great UCLA wins."
UCLA Tailback DeShaun Foster:
(On McCann replacing Cory Paus) "I wasn't worried because McCann has been taking reps. I just wanted to help him so he wouldn't have to carry the team."
"The offensive line did everything. I was just trying to do my part."
"We're getting back on track. We just wanted to earn some respect. People were counting us out, and we just wanted to play hard and show them that the Bruins were back."
Alabama Coach Mike DuBose:
"Congratulations to UCLA and Bob (Toledo) and his staff. That was a great game plan. They dominated on both sides of the line of scrimmage. I'm disappointed in the way we played and disappointed in the way I prepared them."
"I just hope we can learn something from this and go back to practice with the right kind of focus on Monday and turn this into a positive. We can't erase the fact that we lost this football game. It's just very disappointing."
Alabama Quarterback Tyler Watts:
"They came out and played a great game. They came out and were enthusiastic and were ready to play. Normally we go out and take advantage of things, and we just didn't do it today."
"The best thing the team could have done was have our offense hold the ball and keep DeShaun Foster off the field. He's a great running back and extraordinary athlete."
