UCLA Notes:
*UCLA's win over third-ranked Alabama is its first over a team ranked in the Top 3 since defeating second-ranked Washington in 1990.
*UCLA tailback DeShaun Foster's had 42 rushes in the game, tying the school record set by Karim Abdul-Jabbar in 1995 vs. Stanford. Foster also set a new career-high in rushing yards with 187, the most yards since Skip Hicks rushed for 190 yards against Washington State in 1997. Foster's previous best was 118 in 1998 vs. Arizona.
*Foster's three rushing touchdowns match his career-high, which was set in 1998 vs. USC. He also had a receiving touchdown in that game.
*UCLA flanker Freddie Mitchell's 31-yard touchdown pass to Brian Poli-Dixon was his third career touchdown pass. Mitchell's career passing numbers are 4-5 for 126 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. His other touchdown passes have been for 34 yards to Poli-Dixon vs. Texas in 1998, 61 yards to Durrell Price vs. Wisconsin in the 1999 Rose Bowl.
*Mitchell's 46-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter was his first touchdown reception since the first game of his Bruin career in 1998 against Texas.
*UCLA quarterback Cory Paus left the game after the first series with a separated right shoulder and did not return.
*Freddie Milon's 71-yard punt return for a touchdown was the first allowed by the Bruins since Terry Fair of Tennessee returned one for 86yards in 1996.
*Today's attendance of 76,640 is the largest-ever for a UCLA season-opener at the Rose Bowl, breaking the mark of 73,070 vs. Texas in 1998.
ALABAMA POST-GAME FOOTBALL NOTES

*Alabama sold 17,500 tickets for today's game through the Alabama Ticket Office. That represents a record number of tickets sold for a regular season game. An estimated 20-25,000 Alabama fans were at the game today.
*Junior flanker FREDDIE MILONS scored the first time he touched as the preseason All American candidate returned UCLA's first punt 71 yards for a touchdown. The 71-yard punt return marks Milons' second career punt return for a score. Milons' other punt return TD came in the thid quarter of the 2000 Fed Ex Orange Bowl against Michigan. Milons' 62-yard punt return gave Alabama a 28-14 lead.
*Alabama used 16 first-time players in today's season opener with UCLA. The list includes Dre Fulgham (SE & Special Teams), Derrick Woods (Special Teams), Carlos Andrews (Special Teams), Cornelius Wortham (Special Teams), Brooks Daniels (Linebacker & Special Teams), Aries Monroe (DE), Connie Brown (Special Teams), Jason Rawls (Special Teams), Neal Thomas (PK), Donnie Lowe (Special Teams), Donnie Lowe (Special Teams), Nick Ridings (Special Teams), David Daniel (DT), Brandon Greer (Flanker), Michael James (Split End & Special Teams), Nautyn McKay-Loescher (Special Teams) and Antwan Odom (Special Teams).
*All of the 16 above mentioned players are true freshmen with the exception of Connie Brown (JC Transfer), Aries Monroe (JC Transfer), Nick Ridings (RS Freshman), David Daniel (JC Transfer), Brandon Greer (RS Freshman) and Michael James (Transfer).
*Free Safety REGGIE MYLES recorded a 91-yard interception return for a touchdown to give Alabama a 24-21 third quarter lead. Myles 91-yard return is the fourth longest in Alabama history and the longest since 1991. It was Myles seventh career interception and second carer touchdown. Myles' first career touchdown came on a 46-yard interception return against Southern Miss in 1999. In his career, Myles has seven interceptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
*Alabama lost its first season opener since dropping a 27-24 decision to Southern Miss in 1990. The loss to UCLA snapped the Crimson Tide's nine-game winning streak on opening day.
*The season-opening loss was also the first for head coach Mike DuBose, who had beaten Houston (1997), BYU (1998) and Vanderbilt (1999).
*Alabama has never won a season opener when allowing 30 or more points, falling to 0-5-1 after the loss to UCLA. The Bruins 35 points are the third-most ever allowed by Alabama in an opener. Southern California (1970) scored the most, beating Alabama 42-21 at Legion Field in 1970.
