Stanford, CA - UCLA's Kristin Parker and Jamie Dantzscher posted back-to-back perfect 10's on floor as the second-ranked Bruin gymnastics team rallied over the final two rotations for a 196.265-194.675 victory over No. 5 Stanford before 2,150 at Maples Pavilion.
Down by .025 after two rotations, UCLA staged a comeback in the third. While Stanford scored a 49.100 on beam, the Bruins received scores of 9.7 from Valerie Velasco and 9.825 each from Jeanette Antolin and Doni Thompson, setting the stage for the heroics of Parker and Dantzscher and a 49.350 team score.
Stanford then struggled to a 47.300 on floor, while the Bruins posted a powerful 49.325 mark on beam. Bruin freshman Kristen Maloney took home individual beam honors for the second time in as many meets with a 9.925, while Parker and Yvonne Tousek tied for second with a pair of 9.9s.
The first two rotations were tightly contested, with Stanford holding a slim edge, 98.275 to 98.250. Cardinal freshman Lindsay Wing won the vault title with a 9.925 mark, while Dantzscher remained undefeated on the season on bars, winning with a 9.95.
Parker won her first-ever all-around title with a career-high 39.5. The 10.0 on floor was her first-ever perfect score. Dantzscher followed with the third 10.0 of her short Bruin career. After just two meets, the 2000 U.S. Olympian already holds the school record for most career 10.0s. She has won four of five events she has entered thus far and has scored 10s on three of her five routines.
The Bruins return to action Sunday, Jan. 21 in their home opener against Utah. The meet will take place at Pauley Pavilion at 2:00 pm. UCLA's official website, www.uclabruins.com, will provide live statistics and text commentary.
