Meet Results
UCLA's women and men track and field teams on Saturday defeated UC Irvine, Azusa Pacific and CS Los Angeles in quadrangular scoring at Drake Stadium.
Jeanette Bolden's Bruin women's squad won with 252 points, followed by UC Irvine 140.5, Azusa Pacific 105 and CS Los Angeles 83.5. Art Venegas' UCLA men's team won its quad meet with 256 points, followed by Azusa Pacific 138, UC Irvine 122 and CS Los Angeles 57.
In women's competition, Bruin senior Christina Tolson, from Fountain Valley and the 2001 NCAA Indoor shot put champion , won three throwing events ' shot put (54-6 3/4), discus (145-4) and hammer (203-10). A double winner in the field events was UCLA junior Darnesha Griffith, who won the high jump (5-10) and the triple jump (38-10 1/2). CS Los Angeles junior Nicole Duncan, the NCAA Div. II Indoor long jump champion, won the long jump (20-4 1/2) and the 100m (11.78). The Bruin women won both relays (4 X 100m, 45.15, 4 X 400m, 3:43.64, outdoor season best), with senior Michelle Perry running on both relays and winning the 100m hurdles (13.75). UCLA junior Tracy O'Hara won the collegiate pole vault (13-5 1/2), with Canada's Stephanie McCann, competing unattached, setting a Canadian National record (13-9 1/4).
