IRVINE, Calif. - Senior two-meter Alfonso Tucay (Sr., Burbank/Burroughs) scored five times to lead No. 2 UCLA to a 14-6 victory over UC Irvine in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's water polo match Saturday night at Anteater Aquatic Center. The match was the conference finale for both teams.

The Bruins inproved to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in league play. Tucay's five-goal outburst was the highest single-game total by a UCLA player this season. Matt Flesher (Jr., Diamond Bar/Brea Olinda) and Ted Peck (Fr., Irvine/University) each registered three goals, while Brandon Brooks (Jr., Honolulu, HI/Punahou) collected six saves in goal.

UC Irvine (5-12, 1-7 MPSF) fell behind early in the second quarter as the Bruins converted two successive power-play opportunities. UCLA outscored UCI 4-1 in the second to establish a 6-3 halftime edge.

The Bruins gained control of the game late in the third period after UCI had closed to the lead to 7-5. Tucay's two scores and a goal from Flesher in the final 2:18 of the quarter gave the Bruins an insurmountable five-goal lead.

UCLA closes out its regular season schedule by visiting crosstown rival USC at McDonald's Swim Stadium next Saturday at a time yet to be determined.
