UCLA Women's Water Polo Blows Past San Diego State

Westwood, CA- The UCLA women's water polo team opened up MPSF Conference play with a dominating 21-3 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs Saturday morning at Sunset Recreation Center.
Freshman Natalie Golda led the Bruins with a career high five goals, all which came in the second half. Sophomore Jessica Lopez tied her career high in goals with four on the day. Senior Coralie Simmons, juniors Elaine Zivich and Jenny Lamb, sophomore Robin Beauregard and freshman Thalia Munro netted two goals a piece. Sophomores Devon McIntyre and Ashley Stachowski each chipped in with a goal for the Bruins. UCLA improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the MPSF.
San Diego State was led by Kelly Falcone, Holly Hartzell and Jackie Lopez who each scored a goal for the Aztecs. The Aztecs fell to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
UCLA jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead four minutes into the first period before the Aztecs were able to put up a goal of their own. The second quarter mirrored the first as the Bruins put up five goals to the Aztecs one, and went into halftime up 10-2. The Bruins dominated the second half, outscoring San Diego State 7-0 in the third quarter and 4-1 in the final period. UCLA's freshman duo of Golda and Munro controlled the second half, as they combined for seven goals in their home debut.
The Bruins were perfect on their 4-meter penalty shots, hitting the back of the net on all four of their attempts.
The Bruins return to the pool on February 24-25 at the UC Santa Barbara Tournament.
