The UCLA Bruins (6-2, 1-0 MPSF) defeated the #4 California Bears, 6-2, in Sunday morning's semifinal matchup at the UCSB Gaucho Tournament. California drops to 5-4 on the season, with two of its losses coming to the Bruins. UCLA jumped out on top in the first quarter with two goals and did not look back, scoring another in the second and three more goals in the third period. The Bruins were led by junior Jenny Lamb, who hit the back of the net twice in the game.
In the other semifinal game, Stanford (11-0) handed #3 USC (10-1) their first loss of the season with a 13-12 overtime win. The championship game was set just like it was at the Stanford Invitational in early February, #1 Stanford against #2 UCLA. The result was much the same, as the Cardinal defeated the Bruins, 10-7. The loss ends UCLA's four game winning streak. Sophomore Robin Beauregard led the Bruins in scoring with two goals, with five others chipping in with goals of their own.
The Bruins play on the road this weekend against the California Bears on Saturday, March 3 and the Pacific Tigers on Sunday, March 4.
