Tempe, Ariz. - The UCLA women's tennis team fell to No. 10 Arizona State, 6-1 Friday at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 3-10 on the season. ASU, which lost to UCLA back in January, improves to 11-3.
In doubles play, ASU earned its team point by stealing two of the three matches. ASU's Adria Engel/Karin Palme defeated UCLA's Sara Walker/Mariko Fritz-Krockow, 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. On the No. 3 court, ASU's Cindy Sureephong/Megan Yeats defeated the Bruins' Jennifer Donahue and Catherine Hawley, 8-2. ASU's Celena McCoury and Mhairi Brown made an impressive effort at coming back to victory on the No. 1 court, but were defeated by UCLA's No. 16 duo Lauren Fisher and Petya Marinova, 8-3.
In singles action, the Bruins managed only one victory as Hawley defeated Palme, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. In a battle on ITA top-15 players, No. 12 Engel of ASU defeated No. 14 Walker, 7-6, 6-4.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow when they take on Arizona in Tucson beginning at Noon.
