Los Angeles -- Despite singles victories from Bruin freshmen Lauren Fisher and Mariko Fritz-Krockow, the UCLA women's tennis team couldn't pull off the upset over top-ranked Stanford Saturday, falling 5-2 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the loss, UCLA falls to 6-17 on the year and 3-4 in Pac-10 play. Stanford, the nation's only undefeated team, improves to 24-0 on the year.

The Cardinal took a quick 1-0 lead following victories on all three doubles courts to earn the one point awarded for doubles play. In the closest match of the afternoon, UCLA's Fisher and Petya Marinova nearly knocked off the nation's No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Barnikow and Lauren Kalvaria, falling 8-6.

In singles, Fisher needed three sets to beat Barnikow, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, while Fritz-Krockow registered a straight set 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Keiko Tokuda at No. 5 singles.
