  • Florida State defeated UCLA for the first time ever. The Seminoles were 0-6 against the Bruins entering play today.

  • UCLA sophomore pitcher Keira Goerl surpassed the 300-strikeout total for the season, becoming only the third Bruin ever to accomplish the feat (Lisa Fernandez in 1993 and DeeDee Weiman in 1994). She struck out 12 Seminoles to increase her season total to 311.

  • Thus far in the 2002 NCAA playoffs, Goerl has struck out 10 or more batters in all four of her appearances and has allowed just one earned run in 29 innings pitched. She had won her last 15 decisions prior to today.

  • Seminoles' junior second baseman Brandi Stuart tied Tiffany Daniels (1987) for second place on the Florida State single-season runs scored list with her 63rd. Stuart has also reached base in 26 consecutive games (the Seminoles are 23-3 in those games).
