Djahangiri Takes Singles Title at ITA Regionals

Malibu, Calif.- In a match featuring UCLA teammates, No. 6 seed Erfan Djahangiri outlasted No. 5 seed Chris Lam by scores of 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday afternoon to win the singles title at the Omni Hotels Region VIII-South Championships hosted by Pepperdine at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
The Arizona State tandem of Olivier Charroin and Chris Stewart, the No. 6 seed, defeated No. 5 seed Diego Acuna and Calle Hansen of Pepperdine in the doubles final by an 8-2 count.
Charroin and Stewart advanced to the title match with an 8-4 semifinal round win over Leopold Graeubig and Michael Wojnarowicz of Loyola Marymount. Acuna and Hansen upended No. 1 seed Alberto Francis and Lassi Ketola of UCLA in the semfinals by an 8-3 count.
Chris Surapol of UCLA won the consolation singles title, defeating Charroin in the championship match by a final score of 8-6.
The respective main draw singles and doubles champions have earned spots in the Omni Hotels National Indoor Championships scheduled for November 7-10 at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas, near Dallas.
