It was Double Your Fun Day as both the Men's and Women's Soccer Teams Took Home Victories while Thousands of Kids Participated in another Successful "I'm Going To College" Event.
On Sunday, November 3, then men's and women's soccer teams hosted over 3,000 kids, including nine high schools and sixty middle and elementary students, for a double-header day of the UCLA soccer teams, as part of the UCLA's "I'm Going to College" Program. Students from all over the Southern California arrived at Drake stadium for pre-game activities such as campus tours, face-painting, and student athlete autographs from the men's and women's tennis teams. Special visits included the Admissions office, Red Cross of Santa Monica and the Los Angles Police and Fire Departments. Both the LAPD and LAFD had their squad cars and Fire Trucks on site for the students to inspect. The students also participated in soccer juggling contests and took photos with Joe and Josie Bruin who were also present for the event. The Rally Committee was in attendance with the Football helmet and they were able to help the students cheer on both soccer teams to victories over Oregon State.
UCLA students, athletes and over 35 volunteers from the AAP/Plus and Alumni Scholars programs combined their efforts to make this event a huge success. UCLA Athletics offers the "I'm Going to College" Program at various athletic events throughout the year. Operating through the Southern California school systems, the program touches thousands of students each year. Participants receive a glimpse of college life and the excitement of Division I Athletics.
