On Tuesday, March 11, approximately 50 students from Team Prime Time, an after-school program for at-risk youth from the Daniel Webster Middle School in Los Angeles, came to UCLA for a visit with the Bruins. An excited group of kids, led by program director Peter Straus, overtook the UCLA scene as they started off their visit with a look in on the men's basketball practice. The excited group chanted out "T-J, T-J" as Senior T.J. Cummings gave the kids a chance to shoot around with him before signing an autograph for every TPT student. Freshman Marcedes Lewis and Senior Jason Kapono also made their presence known as they greeted the kids and signed photos before practice began. Before leaving Pauley Pavilion, TPT also got a brief minute with a good-spirited Head Coach Steve Lavin.

The Team Prime Time crew then moved over to Drake Stadium to catch a sneak peek at the women's track and field team. The sprinters generously took time out of their practice to arrange relay races between the kids. After a few impressive runs by some TPT members, Coach Bolden gave the group a few minutes of her time to talk about what it takes to be successful and the importance of school. The group then concluded their day with a tour of the UCLA Campus before returning to Daniel Webster Middle School.

Team Prime Time is an after school program that targets children performing below grade level and creates individualized tutorial programs in an effort to increase their academic performance. Athletics has proven to be a powerful tool for improving children's self-esteem, fostering teamwork and teaching skills that children can use on and off the court. Members of the UCLA Athletics community have gladly assisted in these efforts and look forward to continuing the relationship with Team Prime Time.
