The 10th ranked UCLA men's golf team captured its second straight tournament title by winning the Cleveland Golf Classic hosted by USC at the North Ranch Country Club.

In the final round the Bruins posted a five-under par score of 279 and held off Cal to win by seven shots. UCLA's 54-hole total of 845 was seven-under par. Cal finished second at even par 852, followed by Oklahoma at 862 and Arizona State and Stanford at 865.

Individually, the Bruins' Steve Conway emerged from a crowded leaderboard to capture first place honors after firing a final round, three-under par 68. Conway, who finished at six-under par 207, beat fifth-ranked Nick Watney of Fresno State and 10th ranked Jim Seki of Stanford as well as teammates Roy Moon and John Merrick to win his first collegiate title. (Two years ago as a freshman, Conway finished one stroke out of first place in the same tournament that was shortened to 36 holes because of inclement weather.) Moon, the 36-hole leader at four-under par, posted a 73 to finish in a tie for third at 211 with Merrick and three other players. Merrick fired a final round score of 69 to vault from ninth place. Junior Travis Johnson posted a 72 on Tuesday and tied for 54th at 222, and freshman Spencer Levin tied for 68th at 225 after posting a one-under par 70. Levin's round featured an eagle at the par 5 15th hole.

Cal's Peter Tamasulo captured second place at five-under par 208 after posting a final round score of 66 on Tuesday.
