Members of the UCLA Basketball family, both past and present, were out in full force in support of the Team Prime Time basketball camp. The camp featured former Bruin Great and current NBA star, Earl Watson, who spent hours working with the kids. The hard work and dedication displayed by Watson on the court during his years with the Bruins was evident at the camp as well where he proved to be an outstanding role model, both on and off the court. According to Watson, "The camp was a great way to give back to Los Angeles."
Watson was not the only Bruin to lend support their support to Team Prime Time. Guest appearances by Jason Kapono, whose three-point shooting exhibition was awe-inspiring, Janou Rubin and Women Hoop Stars Natalie Jarrett and AJ Bradley really helped make the camp a special experience for the 75 athletes in attendance. However, it was the motivational speech by new Asst. Basketball Coach, Donnie Daniels, that really inspired the campers. Said one 11-year old, "I am going to do exactly what Coach Daniels said because I want to be somebody special."
Proceeds from the camp provide much needed scholarships for the Team Prime Time after-school program. TPT emphasizes academics, athletics and leadership training as the principal means to help at-risk middle school students reach their full potential.
Kelly Reed of the UCLA Athletics Department had this to say about the growing relationship between UCLA and Team Prime Time; "UCLA Athletics is proud to support an organization like Team Prime Time because it advocates learning, leadership and teamwork for at-risk youth in the Los Angeles area. It is a unique and committed organization that has helped many at-risk youth gain a more positive outlook and further their potential in life."
