LOS ANGELES -The UCLA women's tennis team completed a weekend sweep of its first two dual-match opponents, defeating Pepperdine 6-1 on Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. On the doubles side, the Bruins won all three matches 8-5, claiming the afternoon's first point. UCLA also won its first five singles matches before the Waves were able to secure a point.

Sara Walker turned in another sterling performance, defeating Pepperdine's Monika Horvath 6-4, 6-2 after another straight-sets victory on Thursday against Long Beach State.

Jackie Carleton, ranked 84th nationally, was able to turn back a tough challenge from Natalie Braverman, winning 6-2, 7-5, and Susi Wild took down 52nd-ranked Veronica Koksova, 6-3, 6-2.

Two other matches went to three sets before the Bruins claimed two more points. Sarah Gregg fought back against Charlotte Vernaz, ranked 91st in the nation, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Following Carleton, freshman Laura Gordon became the second first-year player to win on the day, beating Merve Asimgil 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Pepperdine's lone point came on court six, where Karin Schlapbach got past UCLA's Anya Loncaric, 6-4, 7-5

UCLA's next opponent will be UC Irvine on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, while cross-town rival USC will visit on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
