Ojai, Calif. - Top-seeded Marcin Matkowski became the second UCLA player in as many years to win the singles title at the Pac-10 Championships Sunday, posting a straight-set decision over Washington's Alex Vlaski in the main draw finals at Ojai's Libbey Park.

Matkowski, a junior from Szczecin, Poland who is ranked No. 26 in the ITA singles rankings, did not drop a set in all four matches heading into the final. Sunday was no different, as he defeated No. 18 Vlaski, 6-4, 6-2. With the victory, Matkowski, who is currently on a 12-match winning streak, improves his overall record this year to 23-3.

UCLA's Rodrigo Grilli, who reached the quarterfinals this year, claimed the Pac-10 singles title over Vlaski in 2002.

In the finals of the Pac-10 Invitational draw, UCLA's Alberto Francis made quick work of Cal's Wayne Wong, winning 6-1, 6-3 Sunday. Francis, from McAllen, TX, was also a finalist in 2002, falling in three sets to USC's Ruben Torres.

UCLA will now concentrate on winning the school's 16th NCAA Championship. The Bruins will learn which teams they are likely to host when the draw is announced this Wednesday.
