TEMPE, AZ - Michelle Turner pitched her first career no-hitter and Monique Mejia hit her first career home run as UCLA defeated Arizona State 8-0 in six innings on Saturday night at ASU's Farrington Stadium. The win in game one of the scheduled doubleheader improves the Bruins to 44-6 (16-4 Pac-10), while ASU falls to 30-22 (7-13 Pac-10).

UCLA started their offense early, as Natasha Watley led off with a double to left center, and scored on a home run by Tairia Mims, her 18th of the season and eighth in Pac-10 play, giving the Bruins a 2-0 lead after the first half-inning of play.

Two solo home runs in the fourth inning doubled the Bruin lead, as Stephanie Ramos led off the inning with her eighth home run of the season before Monique Mejia stepped to the plate and hit her first career home run, a two-out shot the just cleared the center field fence.

Yet another deuce was posted by the Bruins in the fifth inning, as Claire Sua put her 16th home run of the season over the right field fence, scoring Watley, who had reached on a bunt single, stolen second and advanced to third on a fly ball by Caitlin Benyi. The Sua home run took UCLA's lead to 6-0 after five innings.

UCLA started the sixth inning with another rally, as Emily Zaplatosch (Scottsdale, AZ) led off with a double to the wall in right center field. Toria Auelua followed with a fly ball to right field that was dropped, advancing Zaplaotsch to third and Auelua to second base. A sacrifice fly by Monique Mejia scored Zaplatosch, and the eighth run of the game came across when Natasha Watley pushed a single through the right side of the infield, making the score 8-0 in UCLA's favor.

Meanwhile, Michelle Turner was putting the finishing touches on her first career no-hitter, striking out five and issuing just one walk, the only blemish in an otherwise perfect performance.

The Bruins and Sun Devils will complete the doubleheader in a game scheduled to start at approximately 9:10 pm.
