Pepperdine, Calif. - The UCLA men's tennis team had five singles players and three doubles teams win opening round matches Thursday at the Wilson/ITA Fall Regional Championships held at Pepperdine University.

Four Bruin singles players are seeded, headed by No. 2 Chris Lam, who defeated Pepperdine's Justin Montgomery, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round. He will next face UCSB's Anders Dalsakov in the second round on Friday. Alberto Francis, seeded No. 4, needed three sets to overcome Arizona's Jason Labrosse, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(2). Next up for him will be ASU's Nick Hegarty. Benjamin Kohlloeffel, a 9-16 seed, dropped just three games en route to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over ASU's Daniel Davies. Awaiting him in the second round is Kaes Van't Hof of USC.

UCLA's two freshmen also won first-round matches Thursday, as Mathieu Dehaine defeated USC's Bruce Aiken, 6-2, 6-1, and Jeremy Drean knocked off UCI's Ryusuke Kashiwabara, 6-1, 6-4.

The only Bruin to fall in the first round Thursday was seventh-seeded Kris Kwinta, who dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to SDSU's Armando Carrascosa.

In doubles action, top-seeded Francis and Kwinta defeated Luka Cerenko and Francois Vandermere of Arizona, 8-3. Fifth-seeded Lam and Kohlloeffel downed Riverside's Christian Frick/Jordan Leo, 8-1. Dehaine and Drean dropped just one game in their win over UCSB's Brody/Dalsakov.

Jaysen Chung and Jason Nguyen lost to USC's Johan Berg/Jeff Kazarian, 8-2.
