In this week's issue, Sports Illustrated On Campus searches for the perfect sports vibe by visiting California, the college sports capital of the world.

With its sandy beaches and warm weather, the Golden State is a big draw for college athletes, especially at UCLA, where winning is long on tradition. From John Wooden's basketball dynasty to the Bruins' water polo championships, UCLA has established itself as the most complete athletic program in the country. "You hear the talk all around you, whether it's in the weight room or the [athletes'] learning center: `national championship' this, `national championship' that," says junior golfer Susie Matthews. "Expectations are sky-high, and there is definitely pressure to keep up with these other great teams."
