
Bruins Finish Can Am Challenge with Two Victories

The UCLA men's volleyball team won both of its matches on Saturday in the 10th Annual Husky Energy Can Am Challenge, hosted by the University of Alberta at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In their Saturday morning match the Bruins defeated Ryerson University 25-21, 25-19, 25-16. Freshman Nathan Bosza led the Bruins with 13 kills (.435) and David Russell added eight kills (.615), three aces and eight total blocks. Freshman Mat Wade recorded 32 set assists, and sophomore Eric Chaghouri added a team-high eight digs.
The Bruins out-blocked the Flyers 11.5 to 5.0 and limted Ryerson to a hitting percentage of.066.
In their evening match, the Bruins defeated Trinity Western 22-25, 31-29, 25-23, 25-19. Senior Damien Scott led both teams with 16 kills (.423) and five total blocks, followed by senior Nick Scheftic's 14 kills and six total blocks.
Scheftic, who was awarded the MVP of the previous night's match against British Columbia, earned all-tournament team honors and Libero Tony Ker, who recorded 23 digs in the tournament, was awarded the MVP of the U.S. teams.
On Sun., Oct. 23 the Bruins will host the annual Alumni match. First serve begins at 3 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion and admission is free.
